Green Smoothie pixAdding more raw green leafy vegetables into your diet increases your minerals, enzymes and vitamins.  Green vegetables are alkaline which helps reduce the acid that builds up from toxins in our food and environment. The enzymes in green leafy vegetables detox your cells and restore your appearance. Adding these enzyme rich foods will scrub your system night and day while you go through your normal activities.   The easiest way to get more of these alkaline rich, mineral rich foods into your body is to have a GREEN SMOOTHIE for breakfast.

Let me tell you about a study to illustrate this. A woman by the name of Victoria Boutenko took 40 people
brought them to a natural doctor to do an experiment.   The doctor took vital stats, blood pressure, cholesterol, blood test and had them fill out a questionnaire.  She wanted to see how a green smoothie could  change not only their health but also their lifestyle. She changed only one thing. She REPLACE THEIR BREAKFAST with a green smoothie the rest of the day they could eat what ever they ate normally. After 30 days they retook the tests. The results were all of the people who continued with the regiment (not everyone did) had these benefits:

Weight loss
Blood pressure dropped
Sex drive increased
Better energy
Some had reduction in cholesterol LDL and increase in the HDL
Felt happier

Just this one simple change actually made a difference in their life. One simple change may even improve the rest of your day.   Here are 2 recipes for you to try. The smoothies will look green or brown so don’t get scared, they still taste great.  You really can’t even taste the greens.

Try to chew your smoothie a bit before you swallow it.  This will start your saliva glands producing saliva to aid in digestion. After eating, rinse your mouth to clean the sugars off of your teeth.  Brush your teeth if you can.

smoothie blueberryBERRY GREEN SMOOTHIE   (low glycemic)

2 servings
1/4 -1/2 cup water or coconut water
                  or
2 Tb chia seeds soaked in 1 cup water for 30 minutes for extra protein, fat and
fiber. See below for more information on chia seeds
1 1/2  cups fresh or frozen strawberries (organic is best)
1 handful of spinach or  kale, parsley, romaine, swiss chard ( any dark green vegetable)
2 celery stalks
4 sprigs parsley, leaves or stems (this is a good way to use the stems)
Stevia to taste (optional)

Put all ingredients into a blender except coconut water. If using chia seeds add all of them including the water, if not  add enough coconut water to blend until smooth. Don’t get scared by the color!  It will look somewhat brown.  The truth is you can hardly taste the greens if you use something mild like spinach.

PINA COLADA GREEN SMOOTHIE

This is a beginner smoothie, nice and sweet.  If you have any blood sugar issues this one is too sweet for you.

1 cup chopped fresh pineapple
1 banana
½ cup coconut water or 2 Tb chia seeds soaked in 1 cup water for 30 minutes see below for more information on chia seeds
1 handful of kale, romaine or spinach
Stevia to taste (optional)

Put all ingredients into a blender except coconut water. Add enough coconut water to blend until smooth.  If you like it cold add 1 or 2 ice cubes.  Enjoy!

Basic Chia Recipe

I put chia seeds into my green smoothie every day.  They help keep me regular better than anything I have ever tried.  Click here to find out more about chia seeds.

2 Tb Chia seeds
1 cup filtered water

  • Put chia seeds into a bowl.  Stir with a fork.
  • After 5 minutes stir again.  The mixture will be a little gluey, break it up with the fork.
  • Let sit 30 minutes. or soak it overnight inside of the refrigerator.

Some of my clients make up 1 quart (4 times the recipe) of this to keep in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. They use a cup in their smoothie in the morning.

Chia NEEDS to soak for at least 30 minutes so it adds water to your intestines rather than absorbing water. Water containing foods help keep our body in good health.
