The holidays are a hectic time of year. Sometimes you may feel super excited and full of joy and then other times you may feel overwhelmed or even sad. This is all very normal. The holidays can bring up a lot of mixed emotions.
The good news is you don’t have to get stuck in uncomfortable emotions. You can bring yourself back to a place of joy and peace with a simple breathing practice.
Since the holidays are filled with so much emotion, I thought this would be a good opportunity to share a quick tip on how to spend more time feeling joy, appreciation, and peace, I call this alignment. Feeling joy and appreciation connects us to our True Self. Alignment is a vibration that uplifts our spirit. A vibration of joy emanates from us to uplift everyone we encounter. Being in alignment makes the world a better place.
I understand it’s hard to feel joy and appreciation when you’re stressed about money, worried about family gatherings, sad about lost loved ones or feeling buried in how you’re going to get everything done in time.
Here’s a quick way to practice the feeling of joy and appreciation. It also brings you back to a place of self-love in an instant….no matter how stressed you feel.
Do this three-step breathing process a few times throughout the day to come back into alignment. Do it when you wake up in the morning, perhaps while you’re online in the supermarket, when you take a bathroom break or when you get into your car:
- Stop, put your hand on your heart. Take a few deep breaths breathing into your heart.
- First, breathe in love, feeling “I love being me” or I love being alive, or I love my cat. Use anything that gives you a feeling of love. Breathe in the feeling of love into your heart 3 times.
- Second, breathe into your heart and say “I am worthy to have good things come into my life”. Breathe that in and feel it in the cells of your body. You don’t have to do it perfectly, just do the best you can. The intention shifts your energy. Repeat 3 times.
- Third, breathe in through your heart and say “I am safe, things are always working out for me”. Keep your breath slow and deep. The simple act of breathing slowly and deeply shifts you to a more peaceful emotion. Repeat this 3 times.
Then go on with your day. If you practice this a few times a day when you’re not spinning out you’ll find you’re able to return to peace very easily if you get triggered. This 3 step breathing practice fills your body with soothing hormones that boost your immune system and give you energy. Give it a try.
I’ve been using this breathing process for over a year and it has made a huge difference in my life. I feel more joy, love and appreciation every day. I spend more of my day in alignment.
Being happy and healthy is a moment by moment creation. Loving and caring for yourself creates more joy and peace in your life.
