Here is my latest life-enhancing sauce and you can make it in 15 minutes: Cilantro Oregano Pesto

What makes it so life-enhancing are the herbs.   The cilantro and oregano in this recipe give your body a natural boost.

cilantroCilantro is known as a powerful detoxifier. The chemical compounds in cilantro actually bind to the heavy metals loosening them from the tissues, blood and organs. Cilantro then helps  transport these harmful substances out of the body through your poop.

Cilantro’s strong antioxidant properties have been shown to reduce anxiety, improve sleep quality and lower blood sugar.  It is almost magical.

oregano pixOregano means “mountain joy” and was revered as a symbol of happiness in ancient Greece and Rome.  Most importantly oregano has strong antibacterial properties that defend the body against a wide range of bacteria that can affect the skin, gut, and other parts of the body. Oregano is also a slightly stimulating agent, which can increase the production of white blood cells and speed up your metabolism.

Oregano is one of the most powerful anti-pathogens found in nature. Studies have  found essential oils of oregano to be useful against candida.

My intention here is to bring as much of this beautiful, delicious green sauce into our lives as possible.

Cilantro Pesto

Even though I call this sauce “pesto” there is no cheese.  Instead the flavor of the herbs shine through when combined with olive oil, garlic, pine nuts, lemon, salt and pepper.

CIlantro Pesto Ingredients

This is a very flexible sauce that goes well with many foods. Use the pesto to top fish, chicken and grilled or steamed vegetables.  When added to a simple lemon or apple cider vinaigrette it makes a rich, herbal salad dressing in just a few minutes.  It keeps in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

With these simple ingredients and just 15 minutes you’ll give yourself a beautiful gift: a whole jar of Cilantro Pesto available anytime you need a quick sauce.

Life-Enhancing 15 Minute Cilantro Pesto

A life-enhancing pesto you can use on fish, chicken and steamed or grilled vegetables.


  • 1 bunch fresh cilantro, washed and dried (2 cups lightly packed)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh oregano
  • ½ cup lemon juice
  • ¾ cup extra virgin olive oil
  • ½ cup pine nuts
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ teaspoon Celtic sea salt,to taste
  • ¼ teaspoon fresh pepper


  1. Blend all ingredients together.
  2. Taste to adjust salt
  3. Store in a glass jar in the refrigerator for 2-3 weeks.

    If one has nut allergies, how would removing the pine nuts affect this recipe? What could be substituted? Thank you for all you so generously share.

      Hi Joann,
      The recipe will be fine without the pine nuts but you may need a bit more oil. You could also add in 4 tablespoons of nutritional yeast to round out the flavor.
