This smoothie is perfect in the morning or for an afternoon snack.  It has only 6 ingredients which makes it simple, just the way I like it. It’s sweet but with NO added sweetener.

The creaminess comes from avocado.  Avocados are full of healthy fats that help your body absorb nutrients. The fiber in avocados allows you to maintain steady energy levels and keeps your blood sugar balanced, even with all the fruit.

I usually make this smoothie with water but if you use almond milk it’s extra creamy.

The addition of beets gives the smoothie a gorgeous color.  They also help thin the bile and improve liver function.  Your liver is responsible for cleaning your blood and โ€œdetoxingโ€ your body. It’s also key for maintaining proper hormonal balance.  I love knowing this smoothie is supporting my liver.

The high amount of antioxidants come from the blueberries.  Frozen berries make the smoothie thick and creamy.  If you’re using fresh add a few ice cubes to cool things down.

For greens I use kale which is a good source of vitamin C and iron but spinach has a much milder taste. They are both good. You can use any greens you like. Romaine is a good choice if you’re concerned with oxalates or have any problems with your thyroid.

There is a green banana instead of a ripe banana to provide you with resistant starch, a type of starch that is good for your digestive system. It feeds the good bacteria , inhibiting the growth of bad bacteria which helps you absorb more minerals. Since it’s a resistant starch you don’t have to worry about it spiking your blood sugar.  It also makes the smoothie extra creamy.

Vanilla makes your food taste sweet without any sweeteners. But it adds more than just a sweet taste, it also has health benefits.  Vanilla has antibacterial properties and is full of antioxidants. The taste and smell of vanilla is soothing and calming to your nervous system. It makes you feel good! Organic vanilla extract from Madagascar has the most amount of healing properties and best flavor..

If you’re making the smoothie with a vanilla flavored protein powder you won’t need the vanilla extract.

You have the option to add in your favorite vegan or whey protein powder, collagen or hemp protein powder. Protein makes you feel more satisfied.  Here are the ones I like.
