Hibiscus teaย has been enjoyed for hundreds of years. In ancient Egypt the tea was served cold and used primarily by Pharaohs to cool off in the desert heat.

This beautiful crimson colored tea is one of those incredible, yummy teas that is high on the list of healthy beverages like matcha green tea. It can be enjoyed hot or cold but I love it iced in the summer.

Hibiscus Iced Tea overview

Ingredients for Hibiscus Iced Tea

The freshly brewed hibiscus tea is easy to make with just 3 ingredients, dried hibiscus flowers, fresh mint and maple syrup.

I buy these organic dried hibiscus flowers.ย  There is enough here to last a long time so plan on making it often. If you have access to a store with loose herbs you can purchase less.

Hibiscus and mint are a flavor match made in heaven. The fresh mint adds a sweet and refreshing taste.

Sweetener is optional since the tea is naturally sweet. I add a little maple syrup but since everyoneโ€™s sweet tooth is a little different you can add as much as you like or leave it out.

The dried flowers along with fresh mint are steeped in boiling hot water to make tea and then chilled to make iced tea. Plan ahead, since you’ll need time to let the tea chill to get the full flavor of the hibiscus.
