Why I Love This Sauce

This is my favorite dressing these days. I have been making tahini dressing for years and use it often. But I love this dressing because it’s lighter and more refreshing, especially with grains and heavier dishes like vegan burgers or chicken. Here are a few more reasons.

  • light and tangy with a refreshing taste
  • a simple recipe with only 4 ingredients
  • takes only 5 minutes to make, no blender required
  • super nutritious with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory benefits
  • versatile, can be used with vegetables, grains, beans, meats, fritters, latkes, bowls
  • stores well, you can make a big batch and enjoy it all week long on many of your favorite dishes
  • naturally gluten free
  • can easily be made dairy free

How To Make

To squeeze the lemon juice, use a lemon squeezer as shown in the photo. It’s a fabulous tool for your kitchen. I highly recommend it!

It’s best to grate the garlic. Use a microplane as shown above. It’s another great tool that’s good for grating garlic and ginger or making lemon zest.

Measure the yogurt in a glass measuring cup or bowl.

Add the lemon, tahini, salt, garlic and 1 tablespoon of water. I mix everything together in the measuring cup so there is less clean up.

Use a fork or mini whisk and mix until you get a smooth consistency.

Add more water to get desired consistency. There are 2 things that effect the amount of water you need.

  1. The first one is the thickness of your yogurt. Coconut yogurt is much thinner than Greek yogurt. Vegan almond or cashew yogurt can also be thin. You’ll need less water.
  2. The consistency of your tahini is also a factor. Some tahini is thin and pourable others are thicker.

If using the Yogurt Tahini Sauce as a dip, 1 tablespoon of water may be enough, you want it to be thick. If using it as a dressing add more water to make it pourable.

Storage

The sauce lasts for 5 days in a glass container in the refrigerator. The recipe can easily be doubled. It may thicken up in refrigerator, add a little more water if necessary to thin it out.

Serving

Yogurt Tahini Sauce is good on grains, Buddha bowls, roasted or steamed vegetables, fritters, salads, meat dishes or used as a dip for chips or crudités. Here are a few of my favorite recipes to serve with Yogurt Tahini Sauce: Spinach Fritters, Butternut Squash Latkes, Crispy Roasted Delicata Squash, Grilled Lamb Sliders, Kale Mushroom Turkey Burgers Middle Eastern Quinoa with Vegetables. Enjoy the recipe, it’s so easy and so good!

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make the Yogurt Tahini Sauce dairy free?

Yes, absolutely, choose coconut yogurt, cashew or almond yogurt. They are all good.

Is the sauce nut free?

Yes, the sauce is naturally nut free. Tahini is made from sesame seeds, not nuts.

What kind of tahini should I use?

Use all natural 100% pure sesame seeds, roasted has more flavor. If you can find organic that’s always the best. Here are 2 brands I like Soom and Kevala.
